(02)8607-8688 Phone number Reports 8
I received several phone calls from this number today from people who purported to be representing Microsoft (under the name of Princewood as it later turned out). As I had a computer problem they persuaded me to provide them with access to my computer via Teamviewer and access to ID and banking details.I then rang Microsoft to check whether this company was genuine and they confirmed that they are a suspected scamming operation.

1. DONT EVER LET ANYONE LOG INTO YOUR COMPUTER REMOTELY (unless you have met the person ie: computer tech or have phoned for technical assistance to a legitimate number)If you let them remotely log in, this gives them access to everything on your computer, including passwords and the ability to watch your PC activity in the future. 2. NEVER GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD DETAILS. Ask them to send a bill, do not pay over the phone, even if they say if you don't fix the error now your computer will crash or isn't secure blah blah some other catastrophe. If they can't send a paper bill, don't deal with them. They will try to argue their legitimacy by saying look up our website and ABN, but anyone can make up a website to say anything and anyone can apply for an ABN. I have had a friend how has been harassed by people pretending to be Microsoft fixing errors so when they rang me and the number on caller ID came up as "overseas caller" I was already suspicious. I should have said I DON'T HAVE a COMPUTER and see what they said to this... see if they could identify the computer they were supposedly talking about, however when they 'Kevin Berry' from 'Microsoft NSW' called me in a foreign accent he told me they "have received in the last few days numerous error messages" I instead said to them"Which computer has the error message?"He said the one connected to the internet how many computers do you have. I told him multiple. He asked if they are all connected to the internet to which I replied most of them. He said well "as you would know better than me, because it's a virus it will be on all computers because it travels through the internet." [Given that I am not a computer technician and he is calling from Microsoft, one would have thought I would not actually know better than him. He didn't even know my name. He phoned a landline that I answered for the residents and told him that Mr and Mrs were not here but that I would have to pass on the message and get them to ring him. He then gave me a return call number of (02) 8607 8688 (Despite him calling us interstate). I said just to give them some more information, I enquired which internet provider is the error were affecting so called "all computers." He said it is 'coming through the internet' to which I replied but not all the computers have the same internet provider so which computer is effected or which provider. He could not answer this question, instead telling me because it was a Trojan horse virus it was affecting them all connected to the internet. I asked him what was the error messages saying that he said were coming up. He said they were red and yellow script. I again said what did the error message read as. He again told me it was a error message in red and yellow, to which I said what does the red and yellow writing read as, spell it out to me, what is the code, what is it that is written in red and yellow. He kept saying it was a trojan virus and didn't answer the question. I told him I would pass the message onto Mr & Mrs (phone owner) and get them to take their computer to their PC technician and have them contact "Microsoft NSW 02 8607 8688 Kevin Berry" back. He sounded disappointed!

I also received a call from "Kevin" today, saying that they've received several error messages on their Microsoft server that my computer has a virus. I said I'd like to verify who they are, so he gave me this number (0286078688), said their address is 1 Epic (or Epping?) road in NSW and their ABN is 29002589460, which I checked and it is registered as Microsoft Pty Ltd since 1 Apr 2000. I couldn't check whether there is any link between the ABN and the phone number though. I didn't call back. They seem to be pretty good scammers.

Had a call today from this number, said was from Microsoft and he wanted to walk me through fixing my computer as they had a report that I was generating 'many viruses'. Questioned him further about his identity etc, he then mumbled something about being from the Australian Government. Has very thick accent.

I was stung by these people who told me that they were microsoft. And now they have just rang me and are saying that they are Fraud Management from westpac or any bank you bank with. There the same scammers as the microsoft. Don't give out any identification numbers until you have spoken to your bank. After ringing my bank, they have told me that these are scammers. I then rang the supposed fraud management, whom answered the phone posing as microsoft. Then rang it back again and they posed as westpac fraud management. SCAMMERS...keep an eye on the number!

These people phoned on our land line, they seem to have our home address and basically told my wife that they are calling from Microsoft and they have been getting reports of viruses from our computers every time we connect to the internet. My wife was not sure what to do so she called me on my mobile while the caller was still on the line. I told her to get their number and name of the person call and I would call them. Surprisingly the person gave his phone number as 02 8607 8688 and his name as “Ben Thomas”. So I called the number. A “RaJ” answered the phone saying that I had called Australia’s local Microsoft technical support. I asked to speak to Ben. Raj said Ben was talking to another customer, so I asked Raj where they were situated, he said 1 Epping Rd NSW, odd no suburb. Ben came on the line and told me that they were getting reports of viruses originating from our computers and that he was not trying to sell me anything. So I asked him when did they start getting these reports, he said’ last week’, I asked him when did he get the last report and his answer was today, then asked him if he knew which operating system is running that is sending out these viruses. According to him it was as computer running Windows 7. Told him there were no Windows 7 computers in the house today. He quickly changed his tone, said he will recheck his data and call me back. Have not heard back. Definitely a scam of some sort.
